Dental care at home

Dental care at home
Articles for patients23.09.201903 min read

Today, not every person can boast of well-groomed and healthy teeth. Each of us knows that in order to keep our teeth healthy, it is important to visit the dentist at least 2 times a year, however, despite this, in most cases we find ourselves in the dental office when the tooth needs emergency care and emergency treatment.. Thus, we can say that the owner of snow-white and perfectly even teeth can be proud of himself, because in order to keep his teeth in perfect condition, you need to at least find time to take preventive measures.

In order to keep your teeth in good condition, in most cases, it is enough just to perform proper dental care at home.

When should you brush your teeth?

Proper daily brushing should be done for at least two minutes:

After breakfast (morning);
After dinner/last meal (in the evening).

Toothbrush

Choosing the right toothbrush is very important, because it should not be hard or too soft. An additional advantage will be an elastic band or a stiffener on both sides of the brush. The toothbrush should be changed once every 3 months (at least once every 6 months).

Toothpaste

Toothpaste should be changed at least once a month. In the event that you use whitening paste, it is worth remembering that professional dentists do not recommend its daily use. Also, do not neglect toothpaste for gums.

Dental floss

Dental floss is a must. To date, you can buy dental floss that is coated with wax, as well as with various flavors (for example, mint). Dental floss is very convenient to use, besides, it helps to clean the space between the teeth and deodorize the oral cavity. Flossing is recommended before brushing your teeth with toothpaste. Flossing should be done carefully to avoid damaging the gums.

How to brush your teeth properly?

Not every one of us attaches importance to the technique of proper brushing of teeth, and this is a rather important mistake. Steps for brushing your teeth:

  1. We assign a separate segment to each dentition (mentally): large and small, indigenous, anterior.
  2. We bring the brush with the paste applied to it to the surface of the teeth at an angle of 45 degrees.
  3. We process the teeth, from left to right, starting from the upper jaw. Processing of teeth should occur as a “sweeping” movements from top to bottom. Each segment must be processed at least ten times.
  4. We pass to the teeth, which are located on the palatal side. Processing occurs as “sweeping” movements.
  5. The same method is used in relation to plaque and food particles on the teeth of the lower jaw.
  6. Chewing teeth are cleaned with movements (back and forth).
  7. It is customary to clean the front dentition from top to bottom, but in relation to the gums, massage can be performed as light circular movements.
  8. Brushing your teeth should be done for 2-3 minutes (up to 400 movements).
  9. After cleaning the front teeth, use the back of the brush to clean the inner surface of the cheeks, as well as the tongue.
  10. Rinse your mouth with water and rinse aid.
